Conversation club - different perspectives coming together

During the past weeks we have gathered at Kirjakahvila every other Wednesday to discuss different current topics in a friendly atmosphere. Conversation Club is a great way to meet new people, increase one´s English and of course – enjoy the conversation and get to know new information and opinions about different matters of nowadays.

The point of Conversation Clubs is that every week there is a different topic, chosen by the person leading the discussion. The leader will give a short introduction to the topic; they can for example tell why they chose the topic, where did they get the information from or what do they think about the matter themselves. The discussion leader is chosen in the previous gathering and the topic will be let known before the next Conversation Club. Coming there once doesn't mean one is obligated to come the next time; people can choose to come by the topics of each evening.

There are different kinds of people in different groups so you don't have to be the most talkative one to join. Everyone must still be given the chance to participate, so please give room for those who might not know how to take it themselves. Also, there no such thing as a stupid question; when people are afraid to ask questions they think might be stupid, they usually make assumptions instead.

By now we have talked about pacifism, future, climate change, cultural colonialism and boycotting. Two hours go past so fast when you are having an interesting conversation with nice people. Every time there has been at least one person who says they heard points they have never even think of and/or see something differently. This doesn't mean that this happens to everybody but diversity is a richness and talking to people with different opinions from different backgrounds helps to see the same world from a slightly different perspective.
